USMCA is the new NAFTA. The "United States - Mexico - Canada Agreement" was agreed on November 30, 2018 and was finally ratified by all the governments of the three countries involved in March 2020. In this webinar you will find out which practical implications and framework conditions will come into effect for Austrian exporters and branches in Canada, Mexico and the USA on July 1st, the effective entry into force of the agreement.

The Austrian Michael Weber, Senior Economist at the World Bank, will report on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TVET sector and will be available online for questions and answers.

In almost all developing and emerging countries there is a discrepancy between the acquisition of skills / further education, higher education, and the labor market. The World Bank works with local governments to develop programs, e.g. to increase labor market conditions and productivity. A current study by the World Bank, UNESCO, and the International Labor Organization (ILO) is examining the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TVET sector.

Jagdeep Singh, Co-founder and CEO of QuantumScape Corporation

Deep Valley Labs LLC, is a California-based venture laboratory with the mission to conceive, incubate, and spin-out companies solving big emerging problems with disruptive technologies and world-class teams. The core belief at DVL is that all start-ups begin as a collection of hypotheses, and the best way to start enduring deep-tech companies is to explicitly list these hypotheses then work to systematically validate them, only spinning out a company if the hypotheses are validated, modifying and retesting the hypotheses if they are not.

DVL works side-by-side with co-founders-in-residence, to conduct this hypothesis validation, ensuring nascent ideas turn into thriving start-ups. More validation means fewer pivots and an increased likelihood of success. This new model addresses one of the fundamental issues in the Silicon Valley innovation ecosystem, i.e., the lack of a systematic process for founders to go from idea to series A narrative. Cofounder, Jagdeep Singh, will discuss this pioneering model and how it can be applied to a wide range of new enterprises.

Jagdeep Singh is co-founder and CEO of QuantumScape Corporation, a startup working on next-generation solid-state lithium-metal batteries for the automotive sector. He is also the co-founder of the venture laboratory, Deep Valley Labs. Prior to these activities, Jagdeep was co-founder and CEO of Infinera Corp (NASDAQ: INFN), developer of the world’s first large-scale photonic integrated circuits and optical transmission systems based on these chips. At Infinera, he led the company to the number one market share position in North America shortly after commencing shipments and took the company public in an IPO valued at over $1 billion. Prior to founding Infinera, Jagdeep was the founder and CEO of Lightera Networks, an optical switch company subsequently acquired by CIENA Corp. Lightera’s flagship product, the Core Director went on to generate over $1 billion in revenues with top telecom carriers around the world. Prior to Infinera, Jagdeep was founder and CEO of two other companies in the telecommunications space. He holds a master’s degree in computer science from Stanford and an MBA from UC Berkeley.
